We are hoping to have a vote on a group name for this meeting so be there to make your opinion heard. Also come out and hear about some exciting new developments from the Riverhounds, including an appearance by player/Director of Youth Soccer Development Jason Kutney. We are still waiting for word about whether coach Gene Klein will be able to attend.
Please come out and have some beers and meet some fellow soccer fans in the Pittsburgh area. Last meeting we had nearly 15 people. I am hoping that we can come close to doubling that number on Wednesday.
Thanks!
-Eddie
I just got word that Jason Kutney (player and Diretor of Youth Soccer Development), TJ O’Leary (Vice President of Sales and Operations) and POSSIBLY Gene Klein (Head Coach/General Manager) will all be at the meeting tomorrow evening. This really should be a great time and a great second meeting! Come out, have a drink and support the club!
Wow…what a night…again. We really need to not have meetings on Wednesday’s. I was SO hungover this morning I had to excuse myself during a WWI lesson to unload my guts. It was first in my short teaching history!
Meeting went really well. People started showing up around 7pm. We started at 7:30 and I had a long list of things to discuss…and then I realized I had left it on the printer at work. Luckily it seems like over the course of the evening we covered everything. 17 people showed up tonight. That’s a great number already. Figure it’s less than a week till Christmas, the season doesn’t start for 4 months, it’s soccer and it’s in Pittsburgh? Wow…this could really turn into something! Props to Jessie to for driving in from Dayton. That’s love right there!
As others had said the name “Steel Army” was “chosen” though it was more like “How about Steel Army? Ok whatever, can I have another beer?”. Can’t say I love it but whatever, it’s only a name.
Around 8:30 Jason Kutney, Gene Klein, TJ O’Leary and several other Riverhounds employees showed up. Gene brought along a bunch of old Riverhounds shirts that were in storage for us. Very nice gesture. At this point the whole thing kind of turned into a BEERS and Q&A fest. Gene took on all of our questions and didn’t shy away from anything. Great guy. The atmosphere (drink and have fun) wasn’t really conducive to taking notes but here’s everything I got:
1) Jody covered the jerseys correctly. They should be available for purchase soon. They were hoping for before Christmas but that wasn’t possible.
2) The logo is different. I was under the impression that they were doing AWAY with the baseball logo and just using the hound head. I could have been wrong (or drunk or both).
3) We open in Cleveland April 19
4) Gene just got back from Charlestown today at the USL Combine. He said player signings should start occurring early into the new year and he’s looking at several players who have MLS experience.
5) We play in Bermuda the first Saturday in May. I want to do that roadtrip! (Or fly trip I guess).
6) They are definitely hoping for a new stadium and it’s something they are looking into. They even already have drawings for it. It seems they are just looking into funding, possible investor, etc. It’s too early to think too much about it right now though.
7) The Everton deal is huge for this club. Really huge. Gene was asked about Everton coming here or sending youth/reserve teams here in the offseason. He said not this year but it definitely in the works for the future.
8) Road trips. The club is in contact with bus and travel companies about their away games. They’d like to extend seating on busses for road trips to fans. Obviously we’ll have to pay our own way but it’ll be sweet having someone arranging trips for us!!
10) Season tickets. TJ said we get season tickets $30 off the value so I think tickets will cost between $60-70 for the season. That’s a great value. I am going to be sending TJ our mailing list this evening so I am sure he’ll be in contact or you can contact him.
11) Maria makes kick ass cookies.
That’s all I can think of off the top of my head.
Sorry I had to leave early but I’m sure many of you have also been forced to do something because of the crack of that female whip. Anyways I’ll be trying to come up with some songs for us to sing, I was thinking it would be cool to have a gregorian chant of some kind, kinda like Kansas’ “rock chalk jay hawk Kay Youuuu” has a real erie tone to it. Also maybe someway we could use Cleveland’s history of sporting failures against them. IE Elway’s Drive, Tommy Maddox’s comeback, or Jordan’s shot over Craig Ehlo. well there’s that whip again i guess i’m off.
The color scheme is still sort of a work in-progress but the STEEL ARMY has a message board. For now the colors are sticking with gold, black and some Everton-like blues.

I didn’t limit the board to just Riverhounds and USL. There are sections on there for English and all kinds of international football. Hoped that this new board could be used along with this for continued discussion.
