Tartan Devils FC (Pipers Over 30 team)
The Tartan Devils website is now up. www.tartandevils.com
It still needs work but it’s a good start. If you all have any suggestions I do read all the team e-mails.

i need a fake id.
Thank you Drew for making this possible for all of us. This is certaintly fantastic and we should have a great time representing the Devils.
Shane: Regarding your comment, the Pittsburgh Police Department will be getting in touch with you shortly about that fake ID. ha!
I got this letter today and thought you would like to see it. I know some of you have played in this league.
From the PSL (Pittsburgh Sports League)
Dear soccer captains,
I wanted to inform you of some issues and reach out to you for help in enforcing good sportsmanship among your players.
This, as you know, is a recreational league. It is borderline silly—5 vs 5 in a gym…feels like 6th grade gym class. It’s actually pretty fun in my opinion.
Some players unfortunately have been displaying very poor sportsmanship. Let me assure you that these games count for nothing but fun. You’ve all clinched the playoffs. You all have to go to work the next day—and I’m guessing you don’t want to go in on crutches. Over-aggressive play, name-calling, shoving, and any contact away from the play is unnecessary and flat out ridiculous. Let’s not risk injury and let’s not ruin the game for everyone because tempers are flaring over a game.
I understand some people play hard, and good for you. Anything worth doing is worth 100%. But keep in mind that not everyone is playing at the same skill level, and let’s accept the fact that we are old (yeah, I said it). So come out, put a smile on your face, kick the big tennis ball around, and if you happen to knock into somebody–make sure they’re ok. (This is a small town, and that person may be interviewing you for a job someday…)
Unfortunately, there has not been a week over the past few years when I haven’t dealt with bad behavior on the soccer field. Soccer will be removed from the PSL line up for the remainder of 2008. I just wanted to give you a heads up so that if you want to play this spring, you can start looking into other leagues.
Please enjoy the rest of the season. Have fun—play nice—be safe!
Since this is the top message I’ll just post this here … awesome day down at the pub today!! It was nice of the Scientologists to turn off the weather control device long enough for us to get out of the South Side. All hail Xenu!
Hey MJ I think Tom Cruise monitors this blog so be careful what you post here Barry Pepper might not be able to save us all……….
drew, tony and i noticed that on saturday setanta was advertising that they were showing the spurs uefa cup tie on thursday. i havent seen it listed anywhere online, though. do you have any idea if it will be shown thursday afternoon? or even thursday night.
It appears soccerTV.com has finally closed down after threatening to do so for some time. Does anyone know a similar site we can use to find matches?
First to shane
As of now I think the Setanta ad was for the UK market but I will find out for sure today.
Second to Curtis
Soccertv is now done Livesoccertv is ok but not nearly as accurate as soccertv was. I will have to go back to checking about 20 different sources for my scheduling but I am sure someone will take over the void left by Oliver Tse’s departure.
Drew
I just wanted to say congrats to Tommy on his upcoming marriage tomorrow. I can see no better place to get married than the pub!
-Bobby
Oh yeah! Congrats to the newest married member of the Tartan Devils squad!!!
Hey Drew, I have been in many times to watch Arsenal matches (but thankfully not on saturday…) and I am interested in the over 30 football team. I was just wondering if you still have spots available, and about some of the details. I am 33 btw, and have played footy all my life. Can you enlighten me?
Regards, Chris
Chris I will pass your e-mail on to the team Captain.
Drew
Drew,
(Can you pass this along to the Tartan Devil FC captin)
I would like to join your Tartan FC team I played in the two previous Pipers games last summer. My question is will you have regular evening practice? and what days? Will the games be played only on Saturday, Sunday Both days early or late afternoon? I didn’t want to commit if I didn’t have the free time in my own schedule.
Thanks
Ken
Best wishes on the season from out here in Columbus, OH. If your gaffer was there yesterday, and not watching the Blue Birds at Pipers with me, maybe the result would have been different
Drew….will you be selling scarves and kits at the pub for those of us not yet old enough to play on the over 30 team but would still like to support the pub team?
Cheers,
Brad
We will be selling kits and scarves. I will keep you posted.
Drew
The kits are damn sexy!
